About

Thank you for visiting my website! I am Byeongdon Oh, a first-generation immigrant scholar from South Korea. Please feel free to call me “Don,” which is the last syllable of my first name.

I am currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Sociology – Social Justice & Change and as the Founding Director of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Research Center at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly). I also serve as a Computational Social Science Research Faculty at the University of California, Berkeley.

With a diverse background that includes experiences as a journalist, military officer, and policy researcher, I have developed a keen sensitivity to social diversity and inclusion. My research focuses on social stratification, education, race/ethnicity, quantitative/computational methods, and mixed methods. I have received funding from the National Science Foundation for my doctoral and two postdoctoral projects. My work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Social Problems, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Social Science Research.

If you wish to get in touch, please email me at ohb@sunypoly.edu or donoh@berkeley.edu.
